Stanchi di un lungo viaggio, arrivati sul posto mi è preso male: dopo molte ore di macchina, dover affrontare una discesa (e relativa risalita) ripida di circa 800 scalini, per vedere un "buco" nel terreno, proprio non ne avevo voglia.
Anche perché nessuno mi aveva spiegato a cosa andavo incontro ma, sopratutto, a cosa i miei occhi potevano assistere...
Quanto mi sbagliavo!
Il Sotano de Las Golondrinas è una grotta carsica situata presso il villaggio de Aquismon, nello stato di San Luis Potosi in Messico, ed è uno dei tanti fantastichi luoghi da visitare nel "circuito" della Huasteca Potosina.
Tired for long trip, when we arrived at the place, it hurt me: after many hours of driving, walking in a steep descent (and relative ascent) of about 800 steps, to see a "hole" in the ground, I really didn't feel like it.
Also because nobody had explained to me what I was going to meet but, above all, to what my eyes could see ...

The Sotano de Las Golondrinas is a karst cave located near the village of Aquismon, in the state of San Luis Potosi in Mexico, and is one of the many fantastic places to visit in the "circuit" of Huasteca Potosina.
La grotta è profonda 376 m di caduta libera per un diametro i 60 m, mentre il fondo ha un'apertura massima di 300 x 60 metri, come tre campi da calcio: la profondità totale è di 512 m. : è la seconda più profonda del mondo dopo quella di Hang Soo Doong, in Vietnam.
The cave is 1233 ft deep free fall for a diameter of 197 ft, while the bottom has a maximum opening of 984,252 x 197 ft, like three football fields: the total depth is 1680 ft.: it is the second deepest in the world after that of Hang Soo Doong, in Vietnam.

La grotta è stata teatro di una delle imprese del paracadutista francese Patrick De Gayardon, che nel 1993 si lanciò dentro l'ingresso del Sotano.
E anche di recente (2016) è stata "protagonista" di una scena del film Point Break, remake del classico action movie degli anni '90, di Kathryn Bigelow con Keanu Reeves e Patrick Swayze.

Ma per chi, come me, non è uno speleologo o amante degli sport estremi (informo che vengono organizzate escursioni in corda con o senza istruttore; naturalmente prenotando!), può comunque ammirare questo affascinante "buco" anche perché al tramonto offre uno spettacolo fantastico unico nel suo genere.

800 scalini sono tanti... specialmente su un terreno scosceso e ripido ma l'aria che si respira e sopratutto attraversare la foresta è una sensazione piacevolissima.

Un momento della vita della natura che mai e poi mai avrei immaginato di vedere!
Fotografare è quasi impossibile visto la velocità, ma vi assicuro che è un'esperienza unica nel suo genere!
